Michigan woman wins $100,000 Powerball using ChatGPT numbers

AI-Generated Lottery Numbers Pay Off

Tammy Carvey from Wyandotte, Michigan just won $100,000 in the Powerball lottery using numbers generated by ChatGPT. The 45-year-old asked the AI chatbot for a set of Powerball numbers and played them in the September 6 drawing. Her ticket matched four white balls and the Powerball, earning her a $50,000 prize that doubled to $100,000 through the Power Play feature.

“I asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers and those are the numbers I played on my ticket,” Carvey told lottery officials. She didn’t realize she had added the Power Play option until checking her Michigan Lottery account later. “My husband and I were in total disbelief,” she said about discovering the win.

Not the First AI Lottery Winner

Carvey isn’t the first person to claim using ChatGPT for lottery success. Just last month, Carrie Edwards from Virginia won $150,000 using numbers generated by OpenAI’s chatbot. It’s becoming something of a pattern, though lottery officials maintain the results remain completely random.

There’s an interesting contradiction here. While people are using AI to try to predict winning numbers, lottery organizations themselves are using artificial intelligence for very different purposes. They’re implementing AI systems to detect fraud, secure their operations, and protect players. The technology is reshaping how lotteries are managed, not how they’re won.

The Randomness Reality

The Michigan Lottery emphasized that Powerball outcomes are entirely random, regardless of how people choose their numbers. Using AI doesn’t actually change the odds or the randomness of the draw. It’s more about how people are incorporating new technology into age-old gambling traditions.

Instead of lucky charms or personal number systems, some players are now turning to artificial intelligence. It’s a modern twist on the same human desire to find patterns or systems in what’s fundamentally a game of chance. The lottery organization didn’t respond to requests for comment about this particular case.

What’s clear is that people will continue finding creative ways to pick their numbers, whether through AI, birthdays, or random selections. The outcome remains the same—completely unpredictable, but occasionally life-changing for the lucky few.
