Meralco Ventures into the Future with Cutting-Edge VR Facility in the Metaverse
Meralco, the largest electricity distribution utility company in the Philippines, has recently announced its entry into the metaverse by launching its own virtual reality (VR) studio, named PIXL. The PIXL (Powertech Innovation and eXperience Lab) is a state-of-the-art facility that utilizes real-world data to create simulations for training and development purposes.
About the VR Studio
PIXL is a high-tech VR facility equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as VR headsets, Microsoft HoloLens, HD projectors, a 360-degree wall for projection, and numerous LED lights. This platform has been created to cater to the needs of the academic community, regulatory bodies, and even distribution utilities, not only in the Philippines but also across borders.
According to Meralco’s Chief Information and Technology Officer, Bacani, PIXL is envisioned as a studio where individuals can teleport to any location and immerse themselves in a digital reality.
Reasons for this VR Studio Setup
The VR studio has been established to provide Meralco with the means to create immersive training experiences for their workforce, thereby empowering them to develop and hone new skills in a safe and controlled environment. The simulations are based on real-world scenarios, ensuring that the learning experience is highly realistic and engaging.
Furthermore, the facility will function as a hub for research and development, allowing Meralco to test new technologies and explore innovative ideas. As part of a larger trend of companies adopting new technologies to remain competitive, Meralco has been investing heavily in digital transformation in recent years.
With a sharp focus on enhancing customer experience and operational efficiency, the launch of the VR studio is the latest step in this direction. This initiative is expected to enable Meralco to stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
