Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the founder and former CEO of Binance, shared his thoughts on the future of digital currencies during a recent interview on “The Wolf Of All Streets” channel. He discussed his time in prison, his new ventures, and made bold predictions about the industry.
CZ explained that he wrote most of his newly published memoir, “Freedom of Money,” while in federal prison, where he had only 15 minutes daily access to a shared computer. Instead of engaging in routine activities like playing dominoes, he said he wanted to stay productive. “I wanted to keep myself busy and share my experiences,” he noted. He also mentioned losing about 10 kilograms during detention and adopting a disciplined exercise routine.
Decision to Surrender and Legal Strategy
When asked why he voluntarily traveled to the United States to face charges, despite residing in the United Arab Emirates (a country with no extradition treaty with the U.S.), Zhao explained that he made this choice to protect Binance and BNB holders. He admitted he did not expect a prison sentence, adding that his lawyers could not find any precedent for incarceration in similar cases. This decision, he said, was aimed at ensuring the platform’s long-term stability.
Prediction on Crypto Terminology
CZ expressed strong optimism about the industry’s trajectory. “I hope that in 5 years we will no longer use the word ‘crypto’ like we don’t use the word ‘internet’ today; it will just be ‘money,'” he stated. He predicted that blockchain technology would naturally integrate into finance, and that artificial intelligence (AI) agents would increasingly rely on cryptocurrencies for transactions. For him, the term “cryptocurrency” itself may become obsolete as digital assets become mainstream.
Post-Prison Projects and Philanthropy
Since his release, CZ said he is focusing on two main initiatives: Giggle Academy, a free educational platform, and Wise Labs, which supports startups in Web3, AI, and biotechnology. He revealed that Giggle Academy has already reached 240,000 students. Zhao also plans to donate all proceeds from his book to charity.
Advice for New Entrepreneurs
CZ offered advice to emerging founders, reminding them that bear markets are often the best times to launch strong projects. He suggested that patience and building during downturns can lead to success when markets recover.
