Labor Department Launches AI Apprenticeship Portal

The U.S. Department of Labor announced the launch of a new website aimed at helping workers and employers build artificial intelligence skills. The site expands AI-focused apprenticeship programs.

The website is called the AI in Registered Apprenticeship Innovation Portal. It debuted during a National Apprenticeship Week event. The portal is a one-stop resource to help organizations build AI literacy. It also helps create or update Registered Apprenticeship programs with AI-related skills.

Acting Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling said the department is committed to ensuring every American has the opportunity to thrive in the workforce. He called the portal a major step forward in preparing workers for the future.

The announcement comes amid growing fear that AI could disrupt or replace jobs across industries. There is pressure on the government and employers to provide training and pathways to adapt.

Building on Existing Frameworks

The apprenticeship initiative builds on the department’s AI Literacy Framework from February. That framework offers guidance for integrating AI skills into apprenticeship programs. It includes training resources, industry-specific tools, and flexible pathways.

According to the Labor Department, the portal organizes resources into three areas. First, AI skills and literacy in Registered Apprenticeship programs. Second, AI skill-building by industry. Third, ways to integrate AI into existing or new programs. It includes AI training modules for education, finance, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing.

Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training Henry Mack said the launch reflects the Administration’s commitment to lead in an AI-driven economy. He said the department is taking concrete action to build the workforce of the future.

How Employers Can Use the Portal

The department said employers can use the portal to join existing national apprenticeship programs. They can also create new programs for AI-focused roles. Or they can update existing programs to include AI-related skills.

The announcement comes as the Trump administration pushes a broader AI agenda. This includes a White House policy framework from March. That framework calls for federal AI standards, expanded infrastructure, and a unified national approach to workforce development, child safety, innovation, and free speech.

The White House said it is committed to winning the AI race. It wants to usher in a new era of human flourishing, economic competitiveness, and national security. The goal is to enable American industry to innovate and ensure all Americans benefit from the technological revolution.
